Top 3 Florida Beaches for Shelling

Do you consider yourself someone who loves to shell? Maybe you enjoy finding the tiniest shells on your spring break beach vacation. Or perhaps you get up early and look for big ones washed ashore overnight. Either way, Florida is home to some of the best shelling beaches in the world. So, it’s time to load up your gear and hit these top three shelling beaches in your rental van from Carl’s Van Rentals!

1. Marco Island

Marco Island is a shellers’ paradise. Located south of Naples, FL, this small island gathering is the perfect, untouched place to find shells of all sizes. Since the island is too big to cover in one day, many people start at Tigertail Beach. Here, many have found large conch shells, calico scallops, moon snail shells, sand dollars, and more. It’s truly the best place to go if you’re looking to collect certain shells.

2. Cedar Key

Further north, you’ll find a small group of islands called Cedar Key. Here, you’ll find smaller, more secluded beaches, but some of the best assortment of shells around. The other beauty of Cedar Key is the tide pools. The coasts of these small islands are filled with them, which means you can get up close and personal with wildlife. Just remember to schedule your shelling for low-tide times, and you’re sure to find unique seashells.

3. Jupiter Island

On the state’s East Coast, there are also plenty of other shelling beaches to be found. One of our favorites is Jupiter Island, located just north of Fort Lauderdale. This small stretch of island is known for producing more than 200 different types of shells. Locals rave about all the bittersweets, lion’s paws, and sand dollars they’ve found over the years.
