Every castle is cloaked in mystery. The dark hallways, underground dungeon, and defensive ramparts are all secretive relics of the past. However Coral Castle in Miami, FL, is perhaps the most mysterious of them all.

Load the family into your van rental, and drive to Coral Castle to learn more about this mystifying fortress.

A Secretive Man’s Creation

The claim is that Coral Castle was built single-handedly by a terminally ill man named Edward Leedskalnin. After being left at the altar by his Latvian fiancé, he came to the U.S. and labored from 1923 to 1951, moving over 1,100 tons of coral rock to construct the castle. He built it in honor of the woman he still loved.

Not only did Leedskalnin build this masterpiece alone, but he also worked secretly at night. He claimed he mastered the same techniques the Egyptians used for building pyramids. In fact, there’s no evidence that he used any machinery — only simple hand tools.

Visiting Coral Castle

While Leedskalnin’s long-lost love never came to visit the castle, you can. It’s open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission prices are below:
