Don’t Miss Flamingo Gardens While Visiting Fort Lauderdale

While finding a beach is an important part of visiting Florida, don’t forget about the beautiful wildlife sanctuaries and botanical gardens throughout the state. Flamingo Gardens is home to black bears, parrots, panthers, bobcats, alligators, turtles, and of course flamingos. There are also butterfly and hummingbird gardens, a fragrance garden, and a tropical plant house. Location

The garden is located just 15 miles away from Fort Lauderdale in Davie, FL. This makes for an easy drive with your rental van if you decide to stay in a beach-front hotel.

Wildlife

Flamingo Gardens recently opened a black bear habitat to house a bear named Josh. He was raised in the care of humans and would not be able to survive in the wild, so through the assistance of donations, an ideal home was created for Josh.

A Bird of Prey Center houses several at-risk, endangered birds and those that are injured and cannot be released into the wild. Several rescued or adopted cockatoos and macaws have a home in the Parrot Aviary. Panther and bobcat habitats are also on the property for any permanently injured cats that could not survive in the wild.

Obviously Flamingo Gardens has a Flamingo Pond where the birds can all gather in a naturalistic environment. The nearby Flamingo Café offers sandwiches, snacks, and drinks to those who want to watch the flamingos during a relaxing break in the day. You can even feed the flamingos while you’re at the pond.

Narrated Tram Tour

A tram ride is available to take you through the gardens and lasts approximately 25 minutes. The tour is narrated from beginning to end to answer many questions you may have. Tour times are every hour, on the hour, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Adult admission is $4, and children cost $3. Enjoy a relaxing ride around 42 acres of the property to see much of the beautiful scenery.
