Fort De Soto Park in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg and the greater Pinellas County area has a number of beautiful parks and beaches that many of our Carl’s Van Rentals customers love to explore. An area favorite—one that you’ll want to check out on your next trip to St. Petersburg—is the Fort De Soto Park.

About the Park

Fort De Soto Park is the largest park in the county, and it offers St. Petersburg visitors a wealth of activities and beautiful beaches. The park itself consists of about 1,100 acres of interconnected islands with beautiful beaches all around. The natural habitat is home to mangroves, wetlands, a variety of beach plants, hardwoods, palm trees, and much more. Additionally, you can enjoy the local wildlife,. Bird watchers will especially love the park’s documented 328 species of birds.

Other amenities you might enjoy during your visit include:

  • Camping
  • Beach activities (swimming, sun bathing, etc.)
  • Picnic areas
  • Playgrounds
  • Hiking trails
  • Boat launch
  • Canoeing
  • Dog park
  • And more

You may decide to come for a fun afternoon while visiting St. Petersburg, or if you’re an outdoor adventurer who likes the idea of beachside camping, you may make this your main destination.

Getting There

If you’re flying into the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE), be sure to book a van rental. Fort De Soto Park is located about 30 to 45 minutes south of the airport, a scenic drive that takes you through downtown St. Petersburg and offers lots of water views the closer you get to the park.
