Moving or taking a trip that requires a rental van is a big task that can be stressful and tiring, but it doesn’t have to be. One thing that can make the task even harder is having items in your rental van that you should not have put in there in the first place. Below, Carl’s Van Rentals outlines three things you should never pack into your rental.
Firstly, hazardous materials are something you should never pack in a rental van. The Department of Transportation lists things you should keep out of any vehicle. These items can include flammable liquids, corrosive chemicals, and other materials that could pose a danger to others while in transit. If an incident occurs with these materials in your rented vehicle, you could open yourself up to a dangerous situation and a heavy financial burden.
If you’re not renting a refrigerated van, you’ll want to avoid packing any perishables inside your rental, even for short periods. Anything perishable in the Florida heat will quickly go bad if left in a hot van for over an hour. You should also refrain from transporting large quantities of glass bottles. Even with careful consideration, these can break during transit, leaving you with a big mess!
Finally, you should not plan on storing or keeping any important documents in your rental van while it’s in your possession. These include passports, IDs, social security cards, or other vital personal information documents. Keeping these inside the van is unnecessary and could put you at risk if the van is vandalized in any way. It’s best to keep your personal items and documents with you when you’re not inside the vehicle.
